Afghan recalls devastating 2021 US drone strike in Kabul that killed 10 of his family members

The damage inflicted by a US drone that killed 10 members of a family in the Afghan capital remains visible in the courtyard one year after the deadly strike on the civilian home. The family, including seven children, were sitting inside a car on August 29, 2021, when they were mistakenly targeted by US forces. The victims were the last recorded civilian deaths linked to US forces before American troops withdrew from Afghanistan on August 30. The Pentagon has acknowledged that it had wrongly identified the car as an Islamic State (IS) target. According to the US military, an estimated 188 civilians have been mistakenly killed by American forces in Afghanistan since 2018.
