Volunteers in Indonesia have joined forces with government search teams to recover the remains of those who perished in the Mount Semeru eruption, which has left at least 34 people dead. The eruption of Java island’s highest volcano spewed thick columns of hot ash into the sky on December 4, 2021. Rescuers are now battling dangerous conditions, as Mount Semeru remains active since the initial blast, with small eruptions keeping workers and residents on edge.
