Monks and volunteers are operating a mobile grocery store in Thailand using a golf cart to wheel around 1.8 tonnes (2 tons) of fresh vegetables each week to the needy in the suburbs of Bangkok. The cart operates every Sunday, costing about 50,000 baht (US$1,500) every week. The money had come out of the monks’ own pockets, until a recent flood of donations poured in after word began to spread about the cart.
