Heartbreaking scenes of mourners in protective suits saying farewell to loved ones are taking place every day at Indonesia’s Rorotan Public Cemetery. In the two months since it was designated as a Covid-19 burial ground, more than 1,800 pandemic victims have been buried at the site in northern Jakarta. Indonesia has reported the highest single-day numbers of Covid-19 cases and deaths in Southeast Asia. The number of new cases hit 40,427 on July 12, 2021, and a record death toll of 1,040 was reported on July 7.
