Protests have taken place around the world in solidarity with Palestinians amid the worst violence in Gaza and Israel since 2014. In the latest developments, Israel unleashed a series of strikes on Gaza City on May 17, 2021, reportedly killing around 40 people. The death toll in Gaza is at least 181, including 47 children, amid an intensive Israeli air and artillery barrage since the fighting erupted last Monday. At a UN Security Council meeting on May 16, China offered to host peace talks to press for an immediate ceasefire.
