Myanmar’s military junta has announced plans for schools across the country to reopen on the annual back-to-school day on June 1, 2021. Schools and universities have been closed since August 2020 because of the pandemic. But on May 5, students in the cities of Yangon and Dawei protested against the reopening orders, and vowed to boycott classes under the military regime that seized power in a February 1 coup.
