The Biden administration will pull its remaining 2,500 troops out of Afghanistan by September 11 of this year, ending the United States’s longest-running war after 20 years.
Biden’s fellow Democrats in Congress largely supported his move but Republicans said the move posed a security threat to the US.
Former President Donald Trump had set a withdrawal deadline for May 1.
Biden has said the answer to the violence in Afghanistan was not a military one.
