The Mexican Navy carried out a high-speed chase off the coast of Michoacan state on August 3, 2022, in an attempt to catch a fleeing speedboat. According to a press release from the Mexican government, authorities seized 1,600kg (3,527lbs) of drugs believed to be cocaine and 432 litres (114 gallons) of fuel. A Navy plane, a helicopter and a vessel were involved in the high-speed chase, finally stopping the speedboat on Barra de Nexpa beach.
