Thousands of Belgians are flocking to pharmacies to stock up on iodine tablets to protect themselves from radiation poisoning in the event of a nuclear incident. On February 27, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he was putting Moscow’s nuclear deterrence forces on high alert in the face of Western sanctions. A day after the announcement, there were queues of people at pharmacies for iodine tablets, in preparation for a possible nuclear incident.
