After three weeks of anti-vaccine mandate protests in New Zealand, hundreds of riot police were deployed to disperse demonstrators on March 2, 2022. Protesters have been blocking streets and sparked several fires near the parliament building in the capital Wellington. The protests were in response to the country’s tough anti-virus measures and vaccination pass requirements for entering many businesses. Smaller copycat protests have sprouted across the country, including in Christchurch, Nelson and Auckland.
