June 3, 2022, marks 100 days since Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his troops over the border into Ukraine on what he called a “special military operation”. After years of tension between the two countries and the annexation of Crimea in 2014, Putin said the time had come to disarm and “denazify” the neighbouring nation. Russia’s invasion started on February 24 but 100 days later, it has failed to gain control of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, nor has it toppled the country’s government and leader Volodymyr Zelensky. While Russian forces are intensifying their squeeze on Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region, it appears months of conflict lie ahead. The Post takes a look at what has happened in Ukraine since Russia’s invasion.
This video was updated to correct a mispelling of the Ukrainian leader’s name.
